Physical Education is a fundamental part of any child’s development and we are dedicated to ensuring that pupils at Trinity are given the very best opportunities. The department creates a positive and enjoyable environment where students feel safe and learning is the main priority. Students take part in a wide range of sports and activities during their PE lessons, Enrichment sessions and Extra-Curricular clubs, which are led either by our Extra-Curricular specialist or qualified instructors or coaches in their field. We approach each learning opportunity in an innovative and creative way to ensure that every pupil is able to make progress and have fun.
Our Curriculum
Our curriculum is specifically designed so that all pupils receive high quality teaching & learning opportunities from their very first day. The curriculum begins by developing Fundamental Movement Skills and links pathways to areas of strengths and interests throughout Key Stage 3. We are very aware that many students intend to pursue careers in the Sports Industry after school and we cater for many differing needs throughout Key Stage 4 by offering a specialist sports qualification (GCS PE or BTEC Sport).
Qualifications
“PE develops pupils’ competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school. A high quality PE curriculum enables all pupils to enjoy and succeed in many kinds of physical activity. They develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. They also reflect on their own and others’ performances and find ways to improve them.”
(National Curriculum for PE – QCA)
Our Philosophy
We value every child and encourage participation in every activity regardless of ability. By developing every child’s fundamentals, identifying where their strengths and interests are best suited, and providing a range of alternative participation possibilities we hope we capture the interest of all students in our subject.
Students are taught that their success is not only a result of their physical fitness and motor skills, but of equal importance is their capacity to think, to demonstrate learning and make appropriate decisions. This method of assessment and the wide range of activities that students experience, provides the best opportunity for each individual to progress and achieve their own potential.
A Sense of Community
Through PE students have the opportunity to not only achieve self-mastery and develop self-confidence but they are also given the chance to support their school community.
